Golf in Moldova: frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions we hear most. Each one links to the guide with the full details.
Is there golf in Moldova?
Yes, at two places near Chișinău. Dream Valley Golf & Country Club in Hrușova has nine holes played as 18, a covered driving range, a short-game area, a pro shop, a restaurant and a bar. Merops Park Golf Club in Chetrosu is a small three-hole course with very basic facilities.
Is there an 18-hole golf course in Moldova?
Dream Valley’s nine holes are marked out to play as 18, with alternate tees on some holes: the 13th, for example, is the 4th played again from a different tee, as a par 4. But Moldova doesn’t yet have a full-length 18-hole course. Read why.
How much does golf cost in Moldova?
At Dream Valley, non-member green fees are 750 MDL for 9 holes and 1,400 MDL for 18 holes from Thursday to Friday, and 900 MDL and 1,700 MDL at weekends. A range bay costs 300 MDL an hour and a basket of 48 balls 150 MDL. Merops doesn’t publish prices. See the courses page for the full price list.
Can beginners play, and can I hire clubs?
Yes. Dream Valley offers lesson packages from 990 MDL for an hour, and hires clubs: 50 MDL for an iron or 350 MDL for a full bag. See our guide to starting golf in Moldova.
Where can I buy golf equipment in Moldova?
Dream Valley’s pro shop sells Callaway and other clubs, second-hand clubs, gloves and balls. Temu is useful for balls, tees and practice aids, but many clubs sold online are fakes. For golf shoes, ECCO and Under Armour in Chișinău have them. See buying golf equipment and where to buy golf shoes.
When is the best time to play golf in Moldova?
The warm season runs from late May to mid-September, with July the hottest month at around 28°C. The months either side of high summer are usually the most comfortable. Winters are cold. More in our golf trip guide.
How do I get to the golf courses from Chișinău?
You’ll need a car or a taxi. Dream Valley is about 20 km from the city centre, roughly 25 minutes; Merops is about 23 km, roughly 30 minutes. Bolt and Yandex Go both operate in Chișinău.
Where are the nearest full-length golf courses?
The closest are around Bucharest, about 430 km and six hours’ drive, and on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast near Balchik, about 540 km through Romania, where Thracian Cliffs, BlackSeaRama and Lighthouse are close together. See the nearest full-size courses.
What is the golf simulator project?
It’s a proposal for an indoor golf simulator centre in Chișinău: little land needed, open all year, and right in the city. If you’d use one, invest or help run one, register your interest.
