A golf simulator for Chișinău
An indoor simulator centre is the most practical way to grow golf in Moldova now. If you'd use one, invest in one or help run one, register your interest below.
Why a simulator, and why now
Moldova has no international-standard 18-hole course, and one is a long way off. Golf is still an emerging sport here, and agricultural land can't be sold to external investors, which keeps out the developers who build courses elsewhere. There's also nothing in or close to Chișinău where people can easily try the game.
A simulator centre gets round all of that. It needs very little space, works all year in any weather, and can be in the city where people live and work. Modern simulators track every shot accurately enough for coaching and let you play famous courses from around the world.
It's been done nearby: Champ du Golf in Otopeni, near Bucharest's airport, uses TrackMan simulators and offers lessons and club fitting. Read the full argument.
What it could include
Nothing is decided yet. This is the kind of centre that would work well:
- Simulator bays for practice and virtual rounds
- Lessons for beginners and improving players
- A putting and short-game area
- A café or bar, so it's somewhere to meet as well as play
- Corporate events, leagues and competitions
